Slate stone is very fine grained rock derived from sedimentary shale. Clayey metamorphic rock that leaves or split into the thin slabs. It has great tensile strength and durability.

Physical Properties of Slatestone
The principle minerals in slates are mica in small irregular slate, chlorite in flakes and quartz in lens shaped grain.
 
Nature : Hard, Compact, Fine grained, equigranular & homogeneous
Hardness : - 6-7 in Moh's Scale (harder than granite )
Water Absorption : 1 % Compressive Strength : 365 kg/cm2 Density : 2.32-2.38 kg/m3
Module of rupture : 197 Kg/cm2 Sp. Gravity : 2.57
